Slack-Packing
Slack-packing is an excellent way to see Maine’s beautiful 100-Mile Wilderness without the burden of carrying a heavy backpack and resupply. As experienced hikers, we have the knowledge to help you successfully plan and execute the perfect Maine adventure. Trips can be set up as single day outings or multi-day adventures where we transport you to the trail early in the morning and return you to our Hostel after your daily hike is completed. This way you are able to shower, have a delicious meal, and get a good night’s rest before returning for yet another day of adventure.
Check out the 100-Mile Wilderness & Slack-Packing for everything you need to know including our upcoming trips.
PLEASE NOTE: YOU WILL NEED TO BRING YOUR OWN DAYPACK. WATER, FOOD, A HEADLAMP & OTHER SMALL NECESSITIES ARE STILL IMPORTANT TO CARRY.
100 Mile Wilderness Food Drop
The 100-Mile Wilderness from Monson to Abol Bridge is the longest remote section of the Appalachian Trail.
Northbound and Southbound AT hikers can receive a food drop/resupply at one location, approximately halfway through the 100-Mile Wilderness. This will help you manage your pack and lessen the weight you are carrying.
Food drops are currently $45 for guests and $80 for non-guests. People traveling together under the same reservation, such as couples, can split drops. For safety and liability reasons those traveling separate can not share a drop.
PLEASE NOTE: YOU WILL NEED TO SUPPY YOUR OWN FOOD.
WE DO NOT ACCEPT FOOD DROPS AFTER SEPTEMBER 30TH.
We carry a wide selection of Mountain House & Alpine Air freeze dried meals, various bars such as Clif Bars & Kind Bars, electrolytes, and other snacks. We stock the most common fuel sources as well.
Mail Drop
An important service for an Appalachian Trail thru-hiker is the ability to mail food and supplies to a location further along the trail. AT Hostel & Outfitters accepts mail drops. We ask that non-guests donate $5 to our hiker fund for using this service.
PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR NAME, TRAIL NAME, & ETA ON YOUR PACKAGE.
